We host a series of brief lectures by York, PA's makers and doers, who talk about their craft. Our speakers come from varied backgrounds, but they all work systematically and intentionally to create visceral experiences.
PechaKucha Night York utilizes the 20x20 PechaKucha presentation format: 20 slides that automatically advance every 20 seconds. Learn more at PechaKucha.org.
Featured Speakers AT May 11, 2022 PK NIght Event

Justin C. Ayala
Life in a Band Without Making a Sound
Justin Ayala has spent the past 25 or so years in bands answering the question: “So what instrument do you play?” with: “I don’t.” He propagates synesthesia for a living, because that’s what he does, and for him, there is no happier place. But he never really took the time to trace the trail of how he ended up here, or why...until now.
Justin Ayala is a creative problem solver and a synesthetic storyteller. Artist, educator, activist, VJ and dot-connector. He communicates, collaborates, facilitates and empowers. ½ of Aortic Valve, ⅓ of 3’sCo., and 100% a purveyor of visual manipulation. He is a maker [of things] (period).
And so are you.
Kelley Gibson
Let’s Put on a Show: Crafting Connection Through Shared Experiences That Tie Us Together
Even at the age of five, Kelley knew how to throw a party. Whether she was presiding over a mock wedding for kids in the neighborhood with a faux reception in the back yard, or a full-makeup staging of a Kiss concert on the front lawn, Kelley has spent her life honing the craft of using shared experience to bring people from all walks of life together. Kelley will share the importance of community experiences to our social fabric and the way we can use them to heal our ever-growing divides.
Kelley Gibson is President of the Cultural Alliance of York County, south central Pennsylvania’s only united arts fund, efficiently raising and re-granting critical operating support for arts and culture organizations and artists. For the past 20 years, Kelley has used her craft of special event planning, grant-making, and fundraising to foster the soul of York County and bring people together. Born in New Jersey as an Irish twin and the fifth of six children, Kelley fell in love with York while attending York College and fell in love with a Yorker, marrying her husband Joel and calling York home since 1999. They have two fiercely independent and creative kids who will one day save the world to the soundtrack of My Chemical Romance.
Cindy Kalinoski
Create, Communicate, Connect
How does creativity lead us down different paths? Can we find our way despite setbacks? Is it only in hindsight that we see there is value in what we’ve been doing? Being open to diverse experiences, learning seemingly unrelated skills, and having the courage to experiment can open new ways of thinking, being, and working.
Cindy Kalinoski helps people communicate well and tells stories with both words and images. An editorial business owner, writer/photographer, songwriter, and wedding officiant, she’s always discovering new ways to express the beauty she finds. Cindy has traveled to Ethiopia and Peru to document micro-finance, leads small groups, and served on the Board of the York County Chamber of Commerce.
